Abstract
Conventional Postbeamformer Interference Canceler(PIC) can effectively subtract the weighted interference beam from the target beam but is restricted to the case of one interferer. This paper extends the PIC to deal with multiple interferers(PIC-N),which is derived by minimizing the output of target beam subtracted by weighted interference beams. As the steer vector of the PIC-N is the same as the Conventional Beamforming(CBF),the PIC-N is also robust to practical issues,e.g.,array manifold mismatch. The PIC-N is compared with the Minimum Variance Distortionless Response(MVDR) method and the recent Deconvoloved Conventional Beamforming(dCv) method using simulations and experimental data obtained in deep ocean. The PIC-N shows advantages of suppressing a substantial amount of the interference from the multiple interferers to present a distinguishable target beam especially when the target direction is close to one of the interferer directions.Furthermore, compared with the Array Pattern Synthesis(APS) that has stop bands at the interferer angles,PIC-N is more simple and robust.
