Advances of room-acoustic research in coupled-rooms

  • Recent application of coupled reverberation chambers in performing arts venues has prompted active research on sound fields in coupled rooms.After a historical briefing,this paper reviews advances of the room-acoustic research in coupled-rooms,including wave-theorybased modal analysis and modal expansion method,statistical room-acoustic,geometrical room-acoustic approaches,and particularly a diffusion equation-based approach.Acoustical scale-modelingbased experimental tools developed with high spatial resolution automatic scanning capabilities,and advanced Bayesian energy decay analysis applied in room-acoustic research for coupled-rooms are also reviewed This paper is dedicated to the memorial issue of the centennial celebration of late Professor Maa Dah-you.
