Flow induced noise calculations for non-axially distributed hydrophones in towed arrays

  • Put forward two improvements on the analyses between Corcos/Carpenter pressure fluctuation models have of flow induced noise in towed arrays. First, the differences been discussed at length, as well as the relevant calculations of flow induced noise. Second, flow induced noise of non-axially distributed hydrophones is discussed and the relevant power spectrum expression is deduced. The results show that there are some disparities between the wavenumber spectrums of these two models and flow induced noises calculated with them. Flow induced noise is closely related with the tow speed, the radius of the array hose and the axis-off distance. The numerical analyses with Carpenter model indicate that the power spectrum of flow induced noise will increase 24 dB approximately with the tow speed doubling, decrease with the hose radius increasing, and increase with the axis-off distance increasing. The hose diameter and the axis-off distance have a greater influence on the high-frequency component of noise than on the low-frequency component.
