A modified method of evaluating wind speed by ocean ambient noise

  • Based on study of multi-section wind inversion, a modified method is proposed for evaluation of wind speed by ocean ambient noise. The different ocean areas and propagation conditions have effects on wind-generated noise. In modified method experimental data from an offshore area in china indicate that this method is robust for different ocean areas. In middle (15 m/s > v >6 m/s) and high (v > 15 m/s) wind speed sections, both errors the of modified method are less than 15% and lower than WOTAN's. The modified method establishes the foundation for real-time evaluating wind speed by ocean ambient noise in different ocean areas.
