Direction of arrival estimation of weak signals via stochastic resonance

Abstract
A method based on stochastic resonance (SR) is presented to estimate the direction of arrival (DOA) of weak signals in noisy backgrounds. By adaptively adjusting the parameters including the structural parameters and the additional noise, the system moves into the SR condition. The signal-to-noise ratio of the output array signals is greatly improved through the resonators and then the array signals are used to estimate the bearings of targets by some DOA estimation algorithm. The simulation and trial results show the proposed method is applicable to estimate the bearings of weak low-frequency signals.
