Multifractal theory and its application to objective measures of speech quality

  • The application of multifractal theory to speech signal processing was discussed. First, the Multifractal Approach of Speech Signal (MFASS) was brought forward. Second, the OMBFD (Objective Measure Based on Fractal Dimension), a novel output-based objective measure of speech quality, was presented based on the MFASS. In the OMBFD, the characteristics of speech quality were described by using fractal dimensions of mutlifractal. The experimental results showed that the OMBFD could indicate the degraded degree of speech quality and that the correlation degree with subjective measure reached more than 0.75.
