Recognition of six Chinese consonants (P, T, K, ZH, Z,H)based on the gap in zero-crossings

  • Zero-crossing rate is an important feature in speech recognition. However, this feature is unreliable in the computation. A conversion of the feature into the gap in zero-crossingis proposed to recognize Putonghua initials by HMM in this paper. A study of the on-linerecognition of Putonghua voiceless aspirated stops P, T, K,and affricates ZH, Z and glottalfricative H has been done with a correct recognition rate about 78%. The technique used toimplement the proposal and the experiment of the initial recognition are described in this paper.
