Detection of laser-generated ultrasound with a Fabry-Perot interferometer for steel plate thickness gauge

  • A steel plate thickness gauge system that generates ultrasound with a laser and receives it with a second laser and a confocal Fabry-Perot interferometer is presented.The sensitivity of the Fabry-Perot as an ultrasonic receiver and signal detection and processing are discussed.Several experimental results are presented.
