Abstract
This paper gives a general description of the acoustical properties of Chinese bowed string instrument Jinghu. The resonater of Jinghu has been studied experimentally to show the effects of membrane and cylinder of the resonator on the properties of Jinghu. From the analysis of waves propagated on the string, an expression for the vibration of string was derived. The frequency characteristics of the sound by bowing are dependent on two kinds of waves on the string and the radiation of resonator. A method to obtain the spectra of Jinghu sound by playing seven notes is presented in this paper.
