CALCULATION AND MEASUREMENT OF THE PROPAGATION VELOCITY OF THE FRANZ WAVE

  • A theoretical formula which is used to calculate the propagating velocity of the Franz wave produced when a plane wave is incident vertically on and scattered by a underwater infinite rigid cylinder is derived.The Franz wave pattern in the shadow area of a cylinder is observed by using Schlieren method in the experiment.The propagating velocity of the Franz wave obtained from the experiment is consistent with the theoretical result.
