A METHOD FOR NUMERICAL PREDICTION OF THE AVERAGE SOUND FIELD IN SHALLOW WATER

  • The theory of the smooth-average field in shallow water is presented, and the smooth-average expression suitable for long ranges and the image-source expression suitable for short ranges are combined together to give a complete method calculating the average field. The corresponding computer programs, which make the calculation of the average field easy and rapid, have been compiled. Some examples of the application of the method are given, and the theory is well consistent with the experiment.
