DIRECTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SOUND RADIATION BY ELLIPTICAL CONE BELL

Elliptical cone shells have been used for the study of directional characteristics of chime bell sound. Eadiation patterns were obtained experimentally and compared with the calculated radiation patterns for elliptical ring source. The number of lobes of radiation pattern is equal to the number of meridian nodal lines on the vibrating shell. Radiation pattern is symmetic for one of the principal vibrational modes andd dissymmetic for another principal mode.
