DIRECTIONAL PATTERN SYNTHESIS OF LARGE ARRAYS

  • By analyzing a supposed array, the corresponding relation between the weight function and the directional pattern is found out for the arbitrarily shaped arrays, and an approximate equation is derived for the large arrays. As an example, through calculating the line and circular arays, it is made clear that the given design requirement can be fulfilled by means of the synthesis. An optimum value exists in the designed beamwidth.
    Experimented on an equally spaced line array, the experimental results show that the theoretical values of the beamwidth are better consistent with that obtained in the experiments. Therefore, the synthesis method mentioned above is feasible.
