A SEMI-DYNAMIC METHOD FOR SPECTROGRAPHIC ANALYSIS OF VOWELS

A semi-dynamic method for spectral analysis of vowels based on the fundamental frequency scanning and the spectrum superposition is presented in this paper, for the purpose of precisely measuring the formant frequencies and the spectrum envelops of vowels. The advantages of this method are 1. simple, 2. more normal modes may be observed, and 3. the utterance is well fitted for tone language especially for Chinese.
This paper also showed that the fundamental frequency and formant are independent of each other in both articulation process and perception process for Chinese. The average values of F₁ and F₂ of standard Chinese were given in this paper too.
