Abstract:
Two synthesis methods are given in this paper. One of them is the method in which criterion of minimum mean square difference is used. It is applicable in synthesizing the definite patterns. Another is a step-by-step approach method. It can be applied to synthesize the patterns main beam of which is the narrowest or directivity factor of which is the maximum for a given or specified side lobe structure.
Two methods are available for any array, patterns can be synthesized by amplitude shading and phase shading as well as unequal spacing of elements.
The principles of two methods are studied in some detail. Some patterns are synthesized by amplitude shading of line arrays in this paper.
