Abstract:
This paper outlines a new method of amplitude shading. It can be applied to any type of arrays. Directivity pattern obtained by this method is the optimum or nearly the optimum in the sense that for specified sidelobe level the area enveloped by sound pressure square in the considered plane is a minimum, or directivity factor a maximum.
This method is applied to the are array with cylindrical hollow baffle. Directivity patterns obtained by this method is compared with those obtained by several other methods, these results show that performance of the array shaded by this method is the optimum. This method is applied to equally spaced linear point array. For the same sidelobe level, element shading coefficients and directivity patterns obtained by this method may be almost the same as that obtained by Dolph's method.
This method is applicable to synthesis of phased array and unequally spaced array.
